Did you know that a huge number of schools and orphanages around the world are in desperate need of school supplies to help them educate disadvantaged children? Northgate Property became aware of this and joined the dots to around 10,000 old Northgate branded pencils gathering dust in our store rooms.
By contacting the not for profit organisation, 'Pens for Kids', they have navigated numerous customs barriers and been working with the Mengo Children's Foundation in Uganda to get the pencils to children who really appreciate them. So far, the children have received 4,400 pencils from Northgate and we have many more to send.
Joanne Riddell, Head of Property, says:
"On this occasion, I just have to override the pleas for anonymity from Nicky Gregory in my team who has organised all of this. She has worked tirelessly to ensure that these pencils were sent to the right place to the point that she has even dealt direct with the HMRC equivalent in Uganda to make sure the children got them. I'm so proud of her dedication to ensure our old corporate merchandise can find a new life making a genuine difference to the future of these children."
